3-D Photo Shoot

This shoot was inspired by an image I took in College. It's actually a great conversation piece at all of my shoots, if you've ever been over my house you might know which image I'm talking about! (Jenilee stop laughing please!)

In the original image there is a man walking in front of a garage door with a shadow coming in the frame in the upper left corner. He's wearing white clothes a white hat, and is walking through Downtown Baltimore through Lexington Market. I was in college and took the picture with my 35mm Nikon when I was at a red light through my driver's side window. It was very random, but it turned out to be the photo that gave me the confidence to pursue photography. I wanted to take the same concept and apply it to a fashion shoot.

When I casted the model I wanted to use a girl who knew how to pose, and who could add a softer element to contrast a stricking background. concept. Kara Davis at Neal Hamil is was the perfect girl for the shoot. She is such a great talent and more important she has a great attitude.
The styling was provided by Andrea Harrell at Glamourotti.com. She really pulled some very interesting looks for the shoot. What I like most about this look is the detailing in the shoulders. Also the jacket has great structure and fits Kara perfectly. Jenilee Banan (jenileebanan.com) did a great job with the makeup very clean yet still interesting. Avion Sylvester did the hair which looked amazing.

The whole team had a great attitude which made it easy to focus. We had fun as we tried to beat the sunlight before the sunset over the Imperial Sugar Plant. I picked this location because it was easy to access and the white building provided a good canvas to show the black clothing. I knew the black would pop off the white wall. I knew that when I edited them in post I could add that contrast to the image to bring out the shadows in the perforated background. I love that the background adds texture and interest to the images. I wanted it to look almost unreal, sort of like the movie "Sin City" which uses a Film Noir or Neo Noir style. This uses distinctive visual elements including low-key lighting, striking use of light and shadow, and unusual camera placement.

Flashing Lights

In fashion photography you get in what you put in! Meaning most concepts we produce as photographers and art directors take days, sometimes weeks of planning. It's important to have the answers ahead of time for the whats, whens, and how's of your project. It leads to a more focused and cohesive project. It's a team effort, and if everyone is working towards the same goal it makes it easier. But every know and then you get lucky and impromptu creativeness takes over and you produce something that just evolves and happens. That's what happened at this shoot! We were actually doing a clean beauty test, then Sara Bindhammer (model) had the great idea of doing a Blue Warrior type idea. Sara is a model that has a love for what she does, so that made it easy for her think of such a great idea. I mean she's the muse and she's the one who has to pull it off right??? Well she definitely did that, and Jenilee Banan (makeup) and Avion Sylvester (Hair) produced a really cohesive look. I guess what I learned from this shoot is sometimes when you just let things happen a really unique and unexpected thing can happen

Beach Shoot.

Favorite Series Ever! I woke up very early in the morning to capture this series as the sunrise was beginning to shine on Palm Beach. Worth every bit of lost sleep, the beach holds my heart as the most beautiful backdrop to adorn my images with. One of my favorite things to shoot are black and whites. It is amazing how as artist we can create such dramatic statements with no color involved. The very strong and contrasted concept was inspired by the intense beauty of the beach. The sharpness of the sand on her skin really makes the image pop off the screen. This was intentional to add interest to the images. I love the originality of these images I will be continuing this series in 2010 and promise to take it to the next level! This image series won Honorable Mention in the International Photography Awards. I want to take First Place this year!!!!

Agency Test

Sara Bindhammer is an amazing talent for the Neal Hamil Agency.
Her eyes are piercing and she needs little to no direction.
She really understands posing and lighting.
I wanted to capture something that wasn't already in her book.
We had loads of fun at this shoot. Everybody on the team was ready to work and we were really got inspired by each other.
My goal was to create something clean and fresh.
I thought that this hue of purple was unique and complimented the overall feeling I was going for.

Clanay Wheeler, is more than a model she is also has become a friend:)
I most enjoy my shoots with Clanay because of her positive approach to what she does best.
Clanay was the first model that I wanted to shoot more than once!!!
She needs very little direction and of course the camera loves her!
I've shot Clanay over 8 times since we met, and I want to make that over 10 in the upcoming year.
She is a SUCCESSFUL model making money in the competitive market in NY.
I wish her much more success in the upcoming year.
This shoot was shot in downtown Houston.
We shot for about 20 minutes on this day, because we were losing daylight.
Like a true professional that dosn't phase her, we still produced some great images, and had fun doing it.
Loving the hair and styling and makeup provided by Avion Sylvester (hair), Tiffany White (Styling) and Glamour Lane ( makeup).

Elite Agency Test Shoot

It was a great pleasure to work with one of the world's best modeling agencies.
Elite Model Management in Miami is home to some of the world's best super models.
Working with them was a great experience.
The models I tested below were Johanna and Sai.
Both of these models were from Europe and their experience truly showed through the images.
I also worked with a great makeup artist based in South Florida.
Alvin Matium's attention to detail and amazing artistry was a major addition to the shoot.
I really love these images and I will be back in 2010 for more!
